As for public libraries, they are in trouble these days. They are an essential community service but underfunded

How strange we are up here.

We recently got a new library. County paid cash to build it...no bond and no tax increase.

The State of Idaho just projected a $200 million tax surplus for this year. They called it savings.

I don't understand how that can be happening John. From what I understand, most of the public library funding comes from local property taxes, and property taxes are going through the roof due to the real estate spike.

Perhaps they are eating up too much bandwidth allowing X-rated surfers unlimited access? ;)

p.s. Yes, still in Italy, just back from the beach in La Maddalena. It's hot, must be that global warming hitting us again after taking last year off. Hope the French have bought some air-conditioners since 2003's horrible disaster.

John...what kind of community doesn't support financially their libraries....? You know, and I know, that the cheapest dollars spent are those for the libraries.

Check and see what else is going on in your community. I'm sure there is waste someplace.....but make everyone support their libraries.

BTW, is it true that because the US Government spent so much for terrorism protection ideas in ALL states and communities, that most States have a surplus, because some of the funds they had allocated for expenses, were in fact paid by the Feds....? Heard that last night on the radio....
