After Novak had told the CIA in advance, very properly, that he was going to name Plame in his column, and the CIA said that was fine.

We're definitely going to find out whether that conversation took place as you just presented it. Somehow I doubt it. Given the later events.

Let's remember, again, that it's the WH and not the CIA and not Wilson-Plame that are the focus of the investigation.

What is serious in the affair is the ongoing war of the CIA ranks against the White House. What is serious as a heart attack is their attempt to shift the blame for their own gross incompetence somewhere else.

The CIA self-destructed by waging war against the WH. Its incompetence allowed W to give it a coup de grace by centralizing its management off-campus and by giving the military intelligence services a lot more responsibility. In a few years, the CIA will be a shadow of its former self.
