One of the aspects of the "illegal immigrant" debate is it tends to heat up when the job market is soft. This has been true for a long long time.

Yet today the unemployment rate is reported at 5%. But the participation ratio is very low (people aren't looking) and this makes me think the job market is weaker than the headline number. Factor in the anger towards illegals (something we heard about in the early '90s, but went away in the late '90s when the economy was strong) and maybe the labor market is weaker than it appears.

>Do you know of many illegal immigrants paying $7,500 - $10,000 in property tax each year?>

I have tried to quantify the underpayment to illegals compared to market rate for legals. And surprisingly, it is in the same order of magnitude.

And it is likely that Universities charge an out-of-state tuition for all california residents who are not US Permanent Residents or citizens.

California depicts itself: if it was a country it would be the fifth economy in the world.

If illegals were that bad, California would be bankrupt ten years ago. Or were not those illegals that made California the fifth economy in the world?

<<It costs the State of California more than $7,500 a year to keep a student in school.>> I dont trust government figres but let say it is:

How many schools would have been closed down if there were not a constant stream of illegals kids? Ask this question to the education nomenclatura in California.

An educated kid is a good asset to any country. These 7.5K is an investment. It is not money going down the drain. The kid won't go back to where he came from after acquiring that education. He'll stay there and will go next for the 10K below:

<<The tab goes up to $10,000-plus for junior college or state college, and further upwards for a UC education. These schools also receive financial subsidies from a variety of other government entities, trusts, private foundations, and contributions from wealthy alumni.>>

Again investing in the people to be productive. Look, there aren't too many people going there as adults ready to go to work -legally- with a H1B visa. Some you have to educate at home. Concerning the legals, you never see anyone saying: We are saving 7.5K + 10K of education every time an educated foreing adult enter the US legal or otherwise.

<<Do you know of many illegal immigrants paying $7,500 - $10,000 in property tax each year?>>

Aha!! This stats you didn't go dig for! Or are there those stats? Perhaps is there but no one is showing: "here are the statas of positive contribution of the illegals to the California state.

<<Further, California is ranked between 26th and 42nd in the U.S. on spending for education. The tab is much higher in other states. Providing an education to illegal immigrants, or to anybody else for that matter, is not a money-making proposition.>>

This is bad! Illegal should look to the education stats and go to where the spending in education is higher!!! They are getting a bad deal in California.

<<The stats for health care, the penal system, the judicial system, etc. are even worse.>>

You sound like someone who works for the state and not to the private enterprise!!! People who work for the state tend to think like that.
