From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
"The important Gnostic text, the Pistis Sophia, in five books, which scholars date c. 250–300 AD, relates the Gnostic teachings of the transfigured Jesus to the apostles assembled..."

LOL! Gnosticism was not Christian, and it was not early. Paul was just one of the "literalists" and he wrote first Corinthians TWO HUNDRED YEARS BEFORE "Pistis Sophia". The other "literalists" were Mathew, Mark, Luke, John and Peter.

As Peter the "literalist" said;
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (2Peter 1:15,16)

"There is no question that reincarnation was a belief of early Christians"

I just showed that you are wrong on the facts.

"and that resurrection was originally construed by Christians to be a spiritual rather than a physical event."

You are wrong on the facts about this as well. You are confusing Second and Third Century Gnosticism with First Century Christianity. That's just sloppy.

Here's a link for Gnostic history , albeit from the Catholic pov , yet still very comprehensive
newadvent.org

And another link to what some believe are the secret sayings and words that the living Jesus spoke ,
from Didymos Judas Thomas, Apostle
earlychristianwritings.com.

Always interesting that the myth/story of Jesus Christ's crucifixion , was brought on for the same blaspheme that 900yrs later saw the same punishment meted out for an Islamic mystic Hallaj , too. They both made the same heretical claim of being "One" with the father . As well as many other so-called "gnostic heretics" that were punished severely beside and after , crucified for the same supreme heresy . I guess there were a lot of false "messiahs " running about , and this the way to weed them out . There were messiahs around every corner back 2000 yrs ago, around the banks of Galilea , and many of them were prolly called Yeshua.

The tradition in the western religious view continues today with the literalist fundamentalist , who would claim the only relationship to God is thru the identification with the humanity of their chosen Savior or prophet , who is considered divine . It is deeply entrenched and guarded conceptualization that this "only way " to establish this relationship to the divine source ,is to be joined to a unique and supernaturally endowed social group. Historically , God spoke & made a covenant with only one" group of people . And how they distinguish themselves as the "holy ones " is thru special social rites such as circumcision and baptism and an always maintained stentorian proclaimation
that these .....are the only Holy ways ....

Interesting that the deepest mystery of one's life now , is supposed to be dictated by the contrivances of some council of Bishops 500ad, that dwelt in such limited schemata that has long been refuted in almost every way . From biology to astronomy , to even historically . We witness daily a multitude of miracles that would be completly beyond any comprehension of those that lived back then ...and some even today remain blind to.

The question of whether God reveals himself only thru a "chosen few " , has also been refuted completely , thus the desperation of the fundamentalist today . He should be rejoicing , but instead he's gasping for air. The perennial philosopy will endure always while the "faithful" wait for a day of reckoning , objecting to anything else as heresy along the way .

The Gospel of St Thomas indicates that Jesus so indicated that view that God was present here , and so he is ...or at least the Mystery of Life is ...but rapture will not be yours till you join with their view ,
which is diametrically opposed to the word of their own Savior's.

"I and the Father are One "

This the dilemna of the centuries ....and yet should you feel this way ever , just be very careful
who you let know . But you can tell us about it anytime you feel the rapture upon you !

Well some of us , anyways ....lol

;)
