However, they are still just men. Yet, they have managed to thwart one of the world's largest superpowers not because they are brilliant but because the leaders of the superpower are inept and do not understand the enemy they are fighting.

Well said

Good post Ted. I would take exception with one part:

And let me add one more thing.........terrorists like OBL are clever and they have a fire in their bellies because of their ideology and religious fundamentalism. However, they are still just men. Yet, they have managed to thwart one of the world's largest superpowers not because they are brilliant but because the leaders of the superpower are inept and do not understand the enemy they are fighting.

I agree that they don't understand terrorism, but their bottom line was to inflame the public so that they could use terrorism as an excuse for other actions. Iraq, to start.

Now their actions have increased the threat of terrorism to the point that it is becoming a problem.

John

Ted, too much to refute in your post, so I'll be brief:

- You are going nuts if you think Bush's push for "intelligent design" is anything to be concerned about. Or Bush saying he believed Palmiero. Or Bush exercising six times a week.

- Washington has more than enough "terrorism experts" getting paid six-figure salaries to analyze the enemy. So do the news media for that matter. Everyone pretty much has the terrorists all figured out, so what makes you think you know more? Just because you're a master of hindsight and second-guessing?

- Same old argument from you: "I'm not against God, but I'm against organized religion." Then you go ahead and lump guys like Pat Roberton in the same group as Osama bin Laden. That's nuts in itself, but at times you have even lumped me in with Pat Robertson, when the truth is that I'm not very fond of him. It's the same old prejudice I see time and time again from those who don't understand religion but think they have it all figured out.

Bottom line: The only one irrationally overreacting here is you.
