then it's little more than a PR sheet for a political party.

You just can't stand the commentary at the Washington Times. They do a better job at the Pentagon than the WaPo or the NYT. When it comes to politics, the NYT is a running dog for the DNC. At times, I think the NYT editorial dept is writing the DNC talking points.

I notice you still won't comment on the obvious spike of the Air-Enron story.

I have no serious idea what he means by it.

I assume it means that news, news analysis, and news commentary are not necessarily marked as such, the latter two, that is, the former being the default, which is a problem just about everywhere these days. I think that's a true statement albeit hardly unique to the NYT, which is how the quote is sometimes framed.

"If it can't escape it's political viewpoint, then it's little more than a PR sheet for a political party. "

This is as true of much of the NYT's coverage as it is of the Washington Post. They support the Democrats. There are some exceptions, i.e. John Burns. I don't have a problem with their fact, only with their hypocrisy about being "objective" in their reporting and choice of stories. In particular the Air America/Gloria Wise scandal, which IS a NY story, IS being investigated by Eliot Spitzer, and SHOULD be reported on by the NYT. It isn't. I can think of no reason why it shouldn't be, except that the NYT doesn't want to harm a liberal talk show.

My take on the NYT and the WaPo is that they ATTEMPT to present unbiased news, and have a tradition of presenting facts. The Washington Times and Fox News present deliberately slanted news as unbiased, which is a lie. In doing so they create doubt about the MSM news sources that ATTEMPT to be unbiased, and all news. I can only think of a very few publications, mostly magazines, that push news that is purposely left-leaning.
