I worked very hard on the 1994 Ford electric car. The company I worked for was on board and willing to commit to the project, even if we did not make full margin. The PR and positioning for future were the bones we were after. We supplied a major interior component (with about 150 separate parts) and we were told to make it extremely light, but in compliance with FMVSS safety standards. Our company had the leading R&D department in the global industry (we were 1/2 Japanese, go figure!) and they embraced the challenge.

About a year into the program Ford shut it down. Reason? Gas is so cheap this makes no sense.

Ford is looking about 20 minutes into the future.
