"I'm more worried about what it does to the countries reputation."

That depends on how we deal with it. A "it was just some cockroaches that got sprayed" would have one impact. A "it was just a few loose cannons, we've already taken care of it" might be somewhat better, might even be worse.

The reason for my comment is that the administration is already teetering on a knife edge. The response to Rita has been marginally better than Katrina, but only a little. For this to blow up in the wake of those hurricanes means an abrupt and radical change in the way things are done is in the cards. I don't see creaky carts rolling towards the guillotines, but I do see some change like that coming if those photos and tapes are like I think they are. It goes against too much that Americans like to believe about themselves. Systematically abusing children is not one of those ideals.

So there is a growing anger in this country and that stuff might bring things into focus. A classical case of the Morton Salt Syndrome if you ask me.

I would also be worried about the possible damage done to the reputation of my country by those faulty media reports of murders, rapes and other neat stuff, which we now know never took place in the NO Superdome...
