"Thats not the problem. Al Qai'da & Sunnis can be handled by the democratic majority (Shia) if we assist in arming them suitably. The problem is that it is not in our interest to assist the democratic majority in that manner."

Why?

"Do you think that even in the USA we could get 50+% of Reps and 50+% of Dems to vote for a centrist candidate for Pres? Look at the political threads on SI! No way."

We most certainly can if we could get them nominated. The wing nuts in general and SI wingnuts in particular control the primary process. Think McCain vs Warner for two mods. Or if one party did the right thing Think McCain vs Dean or Warner vs Delay. Moderates win in all three scenarios.

Of course not.. It should never be our goal to create a "tyranny of the majority". Any policy we pursue must include finding a legitimate and non-violent manner through which Sunni and Kurdish interests are represented.

There's a fine balance of power that must be sought after in Iraq, where all rights are respected and conflicting interests are resolved peacefully.

But that is not the interest of countries such as Syria and Iran, who seek to maintain turmoil via proxy entities such as the the Badr Corps/SCIRI on the part of Iran, and Al Qai'da and 'Umar Brigade, on the part of Syria and the FRE.

Won't happen

I sincerely hope that you are mistaken.
