If MAD kept the US and USSR from each other's throats for 30 years, do you think it might work in the ME, where the participants have rather less land to soak up nuclear blasts?

I'm assuming the current Iranian leader is a maniac figurehead, to be honest. I can't believe that the majority of influential Persians actually support his apparent aims, I think he's been left in power as a threat to others...

They can talk all they want about wiping Israel off the map, but I don't believe for a minute they will do it, when to do it means their own destruction. I already said if they used nuclear weapons we should attack them- was that unclear? If they attacked Israel, we would have to do exactly what we did when we protected Kuwait. I have said over and over again that I believe in forceful intervention when the boundaries of sovereign nations are violated. There, I said it again. I do get tired of repeating myself though.

"would that be provocation enough?"

"Israel should be wiped off the map"....

What amounts to shooting someone in the head does not qualify as a 'provocation'. It qualifies for something far beyond that, however. It seems we need some sort of 'in between' terminology here. Unless you consider the threat, all by itself, and/or associated comments to be a provocation.
