Jeff, do you remember the reaction when Clinton tried to raise the gas tax? He was demagogued by the Republicans. An increased gas tax would have reduced oil consumption and helped to reduce the budget deficit.

Tom Friedman says we need a gas tax which will raise the price of gas to $3.50-$4.00 per gallon. I think he is right. What do you say?
