If I could imagine any of the following, I would worry about my oil sands positions:

1. Sudden discovery of several new "elephant" oil fields.

2. Simultaneous enactment by all major governments of stringent rationing policies for all petroleum products.

3. Nationalization of the oil sands by Canada, or expropriation by the Province of Alberta, and tight controls on future development.

4. Enactment of enormous excise taxes on bitumen mining.

That's all I can think of right now. Maybe someone else can think of others to worry about. Without one or mroe of these events, all I can see is a steepening curve of cash flow and profits into these operations.
