I would like a little less pompous hubris from those who reap the benefits of our role world wide.

Mq is a very interesting fellow. I don't agree with him, but he is a worthy debater.

<Peaceful US and Peaceful Israel >

What the? That's crazy Michael. Jesus did NOT carry nuclear bombs and wear body armour. Jesus was peaceful. The USA is absolutely NOT peaceful. Switzerland is peaceful. New Zealand is peaceful [militaristically, not socially, though it's pretty good compared with plenty].

If you asked people around the world to name the most peaceful countries, the USA would NOT be anywhere near the top of the list. People would think of who hasn't started or got into fights and would think of LOTS of countries ahead of the USA and Israel. Israel came into existence by defeating the British control of the area after the Ottoman empire was defeated, using murder and terrorism to gain control. The UN decided in the end to create Israel as a separate country.

Not many countries think they are getting a "free ride" with the current Iraqi mess. They would prefer Afghanistan to have been properly dealt with.

NZ and others were happy to help in Afghanistan and did so and largely achieved the goal [though Osama escaped due to bad management]. No free ride there.

It's undignified for the village tough guy to whine about not being loved. Not many people were in favour of attacking Iraq. The USA/Britain decided it was a good idea. Whining about the outcome and lack of support is pathetic. It was pretty obvious what would happen. Quick military defeat then a long guerilla conflict run out of attics and basements and dugouts and arms across borders. Talk about poking ants nests!

If the shoe fits, wear it.

I was okay with the USA attacking Saddam/Uday/Qusay if they wanted to, but didn't think it was sensible, or the best way of dealing with Saddam. The WMDs claim was always a joke - hunting for BigFoot amused me [last seen running over the horizon into Syria, or maybe hiding underground]
