7 days after my father died in 1983 my mother had a stroke. 10 days later at 5:30 PM on Christmas Eve the head nurse told me my mother would be discharged at noon on the 26th and I better find a nursing home ASAP. I offered cash money up front to keep her a few more days and they only took insurance and medicare.

If one has to have Medicare, they better have a supplement. I know it is tough, and will get tougher, but nationalized medicine is not going to be the answer IMO.

Remember when SS was set up, what was the average age of an American? it was like 63 or 65, right? Now it is in the 70s or 80s. My Dad is 81 and still working...
