I know your Dad lives there so I don't mean to offend you BUT I think that if you do the math....given the sort of damage that is typical in a Cat 5, the expense to rebuild those levees to withstand a Cat 5 may not be justified. And frankly, Nagin and Blanco deserve criticism for their ineffectual response as does FEMA. They took a bad situation and made it worse.

Delay-Bush cut levee funding in 2003 to send the money and resources to Iraq. That's a fact. Also, where were all the Nation Guard troops and rescue helicopters? In Iraq too.

They will probably only fix it right after they have been able to buy out all the poor schmucks that own homes in the flooded area for maybe 1/4 or less of what their stake is worth.

It will only get fixed right if and when there is money to be made, as long as this group is in charge.
