TJ, that whole article is absurd and we know from Yiwu the Mad, among others, that China is one big happy clonesville where everyone thinks the same and, of course, looks the same [though I don't recall Yiwu the Mad or Bubba the Bigot going quite that far].

The idea that China is anything other than one big happy family, lovey dovey together is absurd according to Yiwu and co.

It is of course inevitable that Taiwan, Tibet, Manchuria, Xinjiang, Hainan, Shanghai and other bits and pieces will hive off into their own political entities. The days of bigger is better territorial empire megalomania are long gone. Fine for communist revolution and USSR, but no good for 21st century.

China could make 10 large-size countries if split up into logical parts, like Iraq into 3 sectors.

I suppose from Hu's less than gung ho visit to King George II that things will not go very well between USA and China for some time. I suppose that's not good for CDMA, and China would see that as a way of harassing the USA, but annoyingly, that's doing King George II's work for him as he is no doubt annoyed by General Scowcroft saying the opposite of what he says [which really riles him]. He says invade Iraq, Scowcroft says no need, calm down. He wants to blow up Iran. Scowcroft says softly softly catchee monkey. Scowcroft is no doubt friendly towards China and Hu Jintao, but King George II wants to show whose alpha males on planet Earth at present. So if Hu boots QCOM, that'll amuse King George II no end.

I agree with the writer about one thing. I'm sure the Administration knew what that Falung Gong supporter was going to do. I really think Hu Jintao and the other Chinese leaders must despise Bush for his primitive religious beliefs.

Hu's visit - Let me propose an alternate (but very specualtive) view.

There is a big difference between the reception of Jian Xiamen (visits to ranch in Crawford, Texas) and Hu Jintao. 1) Is this less than ideal reception part of the lingeirng fight between the older group (Jian Xiamen) and the Hu group ?

2) Was there an "understanding" on Iran or some other issues which may have changed under Hu ?

Notice that the first idea considers that the White House can be influenced by internal Chinese politics ;-)

And it may dovetail nicely with the second idea....
