If they do "spin out" (which I assume is what used to be meant by "spin off") the oil sands, we, the investors, will get shares in that. I don't think they are going to do that, however. That would be crazy, when we have just had the example today of Shell Canada buying in Blackrock.

It does not matter much whether you get my point or not. EnCana has big holdings of all sorts and are starting to develop them.

The webcast on Encana's site (from the RJ conference in NY today) is pretty comforting about ECA's technical competence in the oil sands business, and the sheer profitability they have achieved even without an upgrader. It touches, but only briefly, on their current process of evaluating possible partners. An announcement is expected 3Q this year. It's worth the 30 minutes to view the complete presentation, I think, since there are several comparative tables which are revealing on the different SAGD performance by company and site.
