To answer your question we have to ask a few others:
1) Why is the nation focused now on immigration?

This is a big question for me as well. As someone who has lived outside the US for the last 6 years and doesn't watch much US media, I have almost no idea where this huge immigration issue came from.

It was seldom discussed in the 1990's, then this year the illegals are marching in the streets!

Mindmeld, Why is the nation focused now on immigration? Is it possible that we are deliberately being distracted from the failures in Iraq and the more important issues we need to deal with?

Yeah right. Illegal immigration is an issue that both parties are hoping would just go away.

If anything, the issue has helped to drive Bush's approval ratings even lower. That's another Rove trick? Please.

Illegal Immigration has been a major issue for me for many years.
Why now for the Congress and Press? Let's see. The minuteman movement and Lou Dobbs finally exposed it for what it was and Congress had to act because they were getting barraged with E-mail...saying "I'm gonna vote you bastards out."

Congress would like to sweep it under the rug until the next election. Don't wanna PO any illegal votes.

If you're thinking it's some kind of convenient diversion away from Iraq, think again.
