eracer, Re: Other AMD CPUs are going to feel pricing pressure as Conroe market share grows and Pentium D prices plummet.>

That might be the case if the PD platforms were at all desirable.

As it stands the only thing keeping PD prices above *ZERO* is unavailability of other choices in volume.

Why are ASPs going to climb? Conroe should decimate Athlon 64 FX sales over the course of the next year. Other AMD CPUs are going to feel pricing pressure as Conroe market share grows and Pentium D prices plummet.

By pushing higher into the boutique neo-dual-socket market, where Intel can't go.

AMD can play off of TWO effects by manipulating FX price:

A) Increasing demand for traditional 1S FX systems, and
B) tapping into the new 2P market, with a step function in demand as 2 CPUs go with each sale.

AMD could shift their product mix to the high end by packaging more/all chips as large-cache & dual-core enabled, safe in the knowledge that reducing prices at the high end will lead to a disproportionate increase in demand.

No way. Dual core FX motherboards will not be that expensive. I just hope AMD dosn't stop selling the FX[N-2] and [N-4] chips, because they will be in heavy demand.
