STF,
All sounds right to me especially this:
<Furthermore, all the talk about Iran being behind Hezbollah is to demonize the country as much as possible and prepare the world opinion for an eventual preemptive strike on their nuclear facilities sometime down the road. >

Prepare J6P.

STF, I agree with most of your analysis, but what I'd like to add is a wildcard -- the out of control hotheads like Hezbollah and Al Qaeda and various other groups that will do anything they can to start a war for their own reasons.

You get enough of them doing whatever it takes to provoke a response and the tensions could quickly escalate beyond the point of no return, even if everyone knows that the Israeli/American axis has overwhelming military strength. Collectives are almost as likely as individuals to act irrationally and against their own interests at times.

I hope I prove to be wrong!

STF, I think it is more serious than that. I say this becasue Iran does seem to be pulling the strings here. Iran woul dnot have started this without an intent to follow up.

The leader of Iran wants to be the head of the middle east and has said many times he wants to wipe Israel off the face of the map. I think Iran encouraged Hezbulla to start a conflict.

Iran's head is an irrational man and there is no telling what an irrational man will do. I think there is a better than 50% chance we see gold go past $85o in four weeks.

"an eventual preemptive strike on their nuclear facilities"

And that isn't a "worst case scenario"? Maybe it's not the worst, but it looks pretty bad to me.
