Which makes it a messy proposition. It's not like they're trying to hurt civilians or Lebanon. When it's messy, what do you do?

No one wins in a classic cycle of violence situation.

Israel has the greater military force and can inflict far greater harm for the moment, but if you take that to a logical conclusion - Israel can not win using military force.

They have to suck up violence committed against them and use all their creativity to find a peaceful solution before things really get out of hand.

I don't think they are trying to avoid civilians at all:

"For the first time, ports in Christian areas were bombarded..."

"An Israeli missile incinerated a van in southern Lebanon, killing 20 people, among them 15 children, in the deadliest single attack of the campaign launched by Israel after Hizbollah captured two of its soldiers and killed eight on Wednesday."

"At least 103 people, all but four of them civilians, have been killed in Israel's four-day-old assault, which has choked Lebanon's economy and prompted tourists and foreigners to flee."

It's not like they're [Israel] trying to hurt civilians or Lebanon.

Nope, the Israelis are shelling Lebanon's only international airport, blockading the coast and borders, and destroying roads, infrastructure and "collaterally damaging" women and children to little bloody dead smithereens out of pure self-hearted goodness and love.

What charming, gentle people they are, with their nuclear weapons and largest military in the region, targeted executions by missile, and so deserving of everything we can throw at them.
If only.
