...only 350 wafers a week potentially spread over 4 Fabs. Why would anyone doubt that?

I don't think most here doubt that Intel can rise to such a low standard of 1M Core Duo 2 in ~7 weeks. Quite the opposite, most were expecting more, I'd bet. So you can understand our "concern" when Intel themselves trumpet such a low standard as if it's something great.

The real question here is, who is going to but a power hungry, under performing Opteron when they can buy a Conroe instead?

First, Conroe and Opteron are not competing in the same market. Regardless:

A) Price.
B) Supply of Core 2 Duo, or lack thereof. (See first point.) (Pertains to Q3, at least.)
C) Features.
D) Momentum.
E) Stability
F) Longevity
G) Personal preference.

I'm sure there are more...

"Do the math" OK, Chandler could make 1M a week on 8" wafers, so four 12" fabs should be able to make 10M a week on a mature-yield process. 130M a quarter.

Or 90M in "a little less than 10" weeks.

I have no doubt they will make 1M by the end of the quarter, but find that "less than impressive."

Seeing as Intel can't make 40M CPUs in one quarter, Intel yields, even including P4's, are obviously less than 50%, even after accounting for having to make two cores for each D9XX chip.

The real question here is, who is going to but a power hungry, under performing Opteron when they can buy a Conroe [sic - you mean a Woodcrest] instead?

1) people who don't want to give their right arm to buy FBDimms
2) people who can't find any Woodcrests to buy
3) people who use RAID and want their servers to work
4) people who fill two or four sockets with Opterons
5) people who realize Intel only has less power consumption if you have < 4G of memory.
6) people who use Windows 64 or Linux 64
