Big oil will clean up only in one sense from $200 a barrel oil. Indirectly, they will set the stage for something unthinkable up until now -- an actual discussion of how terrible the US has been as a global polluter with the wasteful burning of all manner of carbon fuels and an actual search for an alternative to our current "cheap oil" lifestyle.

The weapon used on
Woodle was a file of faked evidence of marital
infidelity. Nice guys, eh?

I watched a discovery channel special on that beatle John the other day. The police types were looking for all kinds of dirt on this guy - because he was not an american citizen and it would be EASIER to put political pressure on him than others of the hippy movement.

The FBI files concluded the hippies in general were very HARD to ridicule in popular media - because they danced naked, had free sex and love, smoked all kinds of illegal substances openly and publicly, homeschooled thier kids etc etc - they had no way to SHAME the hippies into conforming or get popular culture turned against them since they had no self respect - HAHA!

Didn't Jesus sleep with a hooker named Mary - I wonder if the
bully types in his day tried to shame him into conforming.

Jerry Ryan - the hot borg chick on Voyager told the divorce courts her hubby tried to feel her up in a club and have sex with her - some say this cost hubby his political career - why should he be ashamed for trying to feel up his sexy wife and make the nasty with her? Russ you think this chick has a case that hubby shouldn't be attracted to her? I think so - hubby is a sick pig for wanting to sleep with this and feel her up - what a disgusting excuse for a human being - he should be very ashamed for what he did and we should excommunicate him from our society and send him to that prison australia with all the other criminals!

"But $2 a barrel is just the beginning of BP's
shut-down bonus. The Alaskan oil was destined for the
California market which now faces a supply crisis at
the very height of the summer travel season. The big
winner is ARCO petroleum, the largest retailer in the
Golden State. ARCO is a 100%-owned subsidiary of
British Petroleum.

BP could have fixed the pipeline problem this past
winter, after their latest corrosion-caused oil spill.
But then ARCO would have lost the summertime
supply-squeeze windfall. "

Well many refiners aside from BP will have a windfall but I don't buy the conspiracy part... refiners function on long term contracts and have to make adjustments when the type of crude they process changes. BP will now have to go to the market place to buy spot oil at a premium. Also what is to guarantee that Arco can be adequately supplied from the BP refineries with the pipeline shutdown...? You can't profit from the shortage if you don't have product to sell.

Palast can be entertaining but I don't think he knows the oil business, with the BP refinery explosion last year it seems more likely that BP has a very poor maintenance record as opposed to conspiring to push up the price of gasoline:
