BTW, isn't it kind of aggressive to hope to go from a tapeout to production in 1 year (mid-2007)? Intel was already demonstrating Conroe a year ago...

They had functional first silicon. AMD might too but hopes of running silicon in 5 weeks are not realistic. Much less test results. If this is the first product on their new SS process then they really have no clue about how it will perform. I would expect several months is more likely.

LOL. Mmm. Somewhat aggressive, maybe. But this isn't a whole new hail Mary design. AMD's already done the 1 core to two spin. Not, by any concept uncharted waters even.

More aggressive, is, maybe, my opinion that the tape-out is 65 NM version.

Respin, but some kind of announcement either before or concurrent with Q3 EA. (We have working prototypes/silicon sort of thing.)

On second thought without verifying.

For a little historical perspective, AMD's dual-core Opteron was taped out in June 2004, and then officially introduced in late April, 2005.' AMD also claims that the new quad processors will be demo'd this year. Perhaps Core 2 will have a very short reign at the top?"

From my point of view the step from one to two is, most likely, greater than the step from two to four.
