There doesn't seem too be much correlation between stock market performance and the changing direction of yield spreads..

I don't have the data handy but I believe widening credit spreads and a declining stock market go hand in hand.

Credit spreads sure were going up in 00-02. I'm fairly certain the same thing happened at the beginning of other bear markets.

here's the historical data for '99 to the present. clearly, spreads were widening during the last bear. I'm sure you'd find the same thing during earlier bears
