Bob,

Congratulations. It is both a happy and a sad day for SI. You have done amazing things with the site. It is the proverbial home away from home. On behalf of all of us, continue your good work.

Glenn

Hi there.

I’m Clem Chambers CEO of ADVFN. We’ve been working really hard with Bob on this transaction and we are very excited about the prospects for both InvestorsHub, Silicon Investor and ADVFN as we go forwards together.

We very much share the values of your community and we will provide a solid foundation for Bob, Matt and Dave to continue to provide a quality environment for you and help enhances its resources.

You are probably wondering who the blazers are ADVFN, so a little background. We aren’t a bunch of media suits with a check book and a mandate to buy Web 2.0 stuff. We are just like InvestorsHub and Silicon Investor but from Europe. Just like Bob, Matt and Dave we are pioneers of stock communities; just like them, we built our site ADVFN.com with our bare hands.

Unlike InvestorsHub and Silicon Investor though, we were lucky enough to go public on the London Stock Exchange in the dotcom boom and have been fortunate enough to raise the capital to build our business without resorting to the tough world of bootstrapping. However unlike many ‘dotcom’ companies we didn’t burn up in a ball of fiscal flame, instead we stuck to our vision and rolled out a global data offering through the hell and high water of the post-dotcom crash.

ADVFN is big in Europe, has a good footprint in Japan and has users in every country on the planet. We understand markets are local and users care about their stocks and the way they do things, not about a portal like system where one size fits all.

ADVFN share with Bob, Matt and Dave, a simple ethos; a determination to deliver an excellent product and the commitment to see our vision through.

Happily ADVFN are not clueless non stock-trading media folk and if you can bare the thought of Googling me, you will see that I used to write a stock column for Wired Magazine, currently write a column for the Forbes’s website, and produce lots of articles for publications on subjects ranging from hard core trading math like ‘fractals’ and ‘signal to noise ratios in time-series’ to lightweight stuff like index seasonality. The basketball playing guy isn’t me though!

We want you to know ‘we get it’ and will NOT suddenly start getting whacky thoughts about ‘how it should really be done.’

Bob, Matt and Dave already do a terrific job and we hope to enhance this by offering in addition, the things we do great, like global market data, commodity price feeds, Forex, Totalview etc. We run the largest stock trading chat community in Europe so we are very familiar with the rough and tumble of Message Board life, so rest easy, nothing shocks us.

However the first order of play is to get more kit into the racks and get Silicon Investor and InvestorsHub flying even higher.

Moving Forward ...

Congratulations, and I hope all goes well for you, Matt, and Dave, in the transition of ownership, and eventual incorporation of new features and functionality into the existing sites.

Best,

Thought the message to which I'm replying would be a good launching point for this.

I've FINALLY rolled out what's been nothing more than a concept and wish for nearly a decade.

cars.talkzilla.com, the first of what should be many Talkzilla sites based loosely on iHub's technology (which is very similar to SI's -- same original author) is finally a reality. It went live on 9/24/2008 with not much fanfare other than a post on one "Car Nut" thread on each of our sites, but already has over 100 members and nearly (at this writing) 700 posts and is getting around 5000 pageviews a day.

If you love cars or even if you just have an auto-related question, we'd love to see you over there.

And the first 1000 members get free Lifetime Premium accounts. All you have to do is click the Subscribe link and you're in like flint.

But, please, just like SI and iHub are primarily about stocks and ostensibly only about stocks and the market, Cars.Talkzilla.Com is just about cars, so I'd appreciate discussion there being largely limited to cars and car-related topics. We'll let the community (of all 3 sites) determine what the next Talkzilla site will be once the first one has real traction, so to speak. Because we're planning to roll out sites for other topics (which we've made it so it can be easily done), we're much more stringent about "on-topic" there.
