The USA [Kissinger] gave the green light for invasion and carnage in East Timor.

That's just such BS, Maurice.. The world resents it when we're involved, and then resents us because our indifference is construed as a "green light"??

And one more point about East Timor.. I will admit that I don't presume to have an understanding of whether the oppression against Christians in ET necessitated a secession from Indonesia, but I DO KNOW there's a sh*tload of oil at stake and the Australians are apparently receiving a clear majority of the revenues from it.

In what sense did Kissinger give a "green light" for invasion?

After Suharto complained to Kissinger and Ford that the annexation of East Timor was being resisted by Communists, they told Suharto that the US wouldn't oppose Suharto's ambitions.

That's the thing that leftists really hate, when Communists lose their fellow travellers never get over it. When Communists slaughter millions, they never remember it.

I didn't figure you for a fellow traveller but your true colors are coming out. My guess is that, while you're more or less a libertarian today, you were fairly far to the left in your youth.
