Tim doesn't even realize his lifestyle came pre-downsized. 30 years ago, he'd have been driving a Lincoln Town Car for his luxury vehicle, and no house would have done except a large suburban spread in a fashionable neighborhood. Oh, and he'd have done all that one ONE income, and the wife would have stayed home with the kids.

More downsizing to come! Want a preview? Look at how Japanese live..

If the Infiniti could be made smaller and lighter and more fuel efficient without any negative trade offs it probably would already be smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient. Those trade offs are a cost to me. If they include a higher price (because of extra design costs, or more expensive components, or the cost of batteries for a hybrid system) then they are a direct monetary cost (if the government subsidies these costs than they still exist they just come through taxation). Or you could have non monetary costs like less power.

Would solar panels on the roof of your townhouse effect your lifestyle?

Not if I don't have to pay for them, but TANSTAAFL.
