The RWE threads are in a feeding frenzy over Kerry's remark. I haven't seen this much froth in the water since the Swiftboaters.

I must be cynical, but when I originally heard it, I thought that Kerry was referring to GWB's getting us stuck in Iraq.

I was somewhat surprised to see the GOP interpret it differently, but then it is the silly season and they can't exactly run on their record.

If it was supposed to be a joke, what was the punchline? I know what his aides came up with the next day, but that sounds like backfilling. If it was a botched joke, why didn't he stop what he was saying right then and there and clarify? He didn't do that, he just kept right on going. He simply stated what's been on his mind for 30 years or so.
