I'm not Canadian, but I follow the politics pretty closely in Canada and Mexico.

I do think that Canada would only be temporarily hurt by Quebec's leaving Canada, but that the damage to Quebec would be permanent and long lasting.

I would predict that they would come begging to Canada to rejoin, or perhaps they would try to become a state of the US?

That brings to thought the recent focus on the North American Union which has been in the works mostly behind the scenes for some time now. A united US,Canada and Mexico.

One more thing that I think should be a top priority for our politicians -- encouraging healthy eating habits and lifestyles. People in North America fret about risks of a terrorist incident somewhere, something costly and almost impossible to completely insure against, but seem to ignore the complete inevitability that millions will die prematurely from heart disease and diabetes because of their choice of eating habits. Eating greasy burgers, fries, and chicken and washing it down with calorie-laden soft drinks as a regular part of our diet is systematically killing people, inch by inch, little by little, and we need to know it. If the government doesn't spend money on educating us on healthy food, or doing something to curb consumption of unhealthy food, we are going to pay many times over through our health system.
