JFK.. a good deal more experience at the Federal level than Obama: World War II war hero Served in the US Congress from Massachusetts 6 years Elected US Senate 1952. Elected President 1960. Kennedy had to overcome being a Catholic. Obama would have to overcome his name.. Barack Hussein Obama and his race.

Obama's strange name and his race are a big part of his appeal. A lot of people won't vote for a non-caucasian but we aren't going to get those votes anyway. So long as 26% of the US population is willing to vote for him we win.

JFK graduated from Harvard in 1940 and was a naval deck officer for 4 years, commanded a PT boat and was a decorated veteran. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1946...served for six years, elected to the Senate in 1952 where he served for 8 years, wrote Profiles in Courage in 1956 and was elected President in 1960. He indeed had charisma, however also had deep experience which would separate him from Obama. A19
