Thanks Paul.I think a steady focus on the stocks is good timing for now. With luck the metals break to the upside and the stocks go with them.

TSL, you are looking for rules for the perfect thread. The best thread, IMO, has to have an existential nature to it.

Here is why: all of reality and all of the universe is both relative and related, so sometimes obtuse information is very important to a mining investment or trade.

Example: Any mining thread that does not talk about the impact of China on base metal consumption is foolish in my opinion. We all know that, but many if not most mining threads would consider that OT. So defining what is and what is not, in realaity, OT is very subjective.

So where does that lead? Well China is the new and most powerful economic force in the world today; and most polluted country on earth. 7 of the 10 of the most polluted cities are in China. China and the US produce somthing like half of the carbon dioxide in the world. And they are the two countries which refuse to sign the Kyoto agreement.

Which brings us to how do we solve pollution? Well with a lot of PGM's, copper, nickel, lead and zinc for scrubbers, hybred and electric cars, etc, etc.

And as the world decides to take global warming seriously the amount of base metals consumed will sky rocket.

Besides people cannot think in a vacuum or in a box, one needs the existential intellectual freedom to soar through the universe of ideas to explore for big ideas and how they connect-lol. Sometimes even to mining-lol.

Like EC does-lol.

I agree that those who want to debate global warming should do so in a different thread. I don't mind an occasional informational post, but extensive debate on the topic should be done elsewhere, IMO.

I posted my thoughts on the subject and why I don't think debating it here makes much difference a few weeks ago:

The U.S. is only a small part of the world, and the rest of the world wants to enjoy the same living standard that Americans have. China and other countries may just use up resources at a torrid pace no matter what Gore does. The best bet is probably to try to develop alternative energy that would be a viable option for developing countries both in terms of cost and environmental impact. The U.S. could stop using environmentally unfriendly energy completely and it may not make any difference longer term if the whole world doesn't change.

If the world demand for base metals increases even more to try to curb global warming, that's great, but that could happen whether human-induced global warming is for real or not.
