Gold did not perform any better than most metals in the last decade. Its price did little more than keep up with its production cost. Hardly an investment star, even among commodities.

Commodities are a very small part of the price of goods and services, and are not deflating. Commodities will probably extend their bull run for some time, because so many people around the world only now start to afford decent food, shelter and gadgets. But commodities are destined to go back into the basement on a permanent basis, once world population peaks and starts declining sometime in the next few decades.
