1857 was the first recorded time when the indians fought/got into conflict with the british empire to seek independance.

that event affected countries we now know as : England, Portugal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji, Srilanka.

put in perspective - those days the empire ruled much of the world.

so u could call it a world war or u could call it a local event, based on your perspective.

Because in the 19th century wars were confined regionally as had been the case for centuries. Then in the 20th century globalism entered a new phase of development along with world wars. Once the "great" wars were part of the landscape, the UN was created as a world body to checkmate the phenomena. And, it has done quite a good job.....so far.
