In one of my angry posts today, i said let the uncivil war begin. I am tired of americans dying daily at the hands of these barbarians. I know most folks in iraq are good and their fate is regrettable as the barbarians take on the other barbarians. We should just get Airbus to build giant tanker planes and jsut fly the oil out first. (g) YOu think that is profitable at $4 per gallon.

The Original Mission in Iraq was oil profits. Since you're LOYAL to oil profits, you must be as gleeful as an Enron Trader to see the US of A fighting and dying for them.

Congratulations. BigOil has won this bloody war and is gleefully looking forward to $4.50/gallon gasoline.

Bill, re: "As you know, I'm still loyal to the original mission and milestones. It has been two years since all three goals were achieved."

The "original mission" was the match that lit the inferno and put us in the mix. Can you really view that "mission" as distinct from the aftermath of that action?

But that's a philosophical question now, the real issue was summarized by the remainder of your post, i.e.;

"Furthermore, it's pretty clear that chaos will break out after we leave. Whether now, or in ten years, or twenty. So what's the point?"

Other than holding on to magical thinking or trying to win political advantage by extending the war until the other party stops it so you can lay the "blame" on them for "losing," there is no point. And when our soldiers are dying and killing on our behalf, magical thinking and political gamesmanship are obscenely repugnant.

In view of your earlier support for the Bush Administration on this war, you surprise me. I appreciate your willingness to express an opinion similar to those of us who see the war costs as too great, the sacrifices of our soldiers as too high and any realistically possible benefits as too illusory to justify more war. And I mean that sincerely. Ed
