I have alwasys considered myself a realist in FP. I believed the wmd story and i also could see the advantage for us if we could help establish a workable non totalitarina regime in iraq. At this point i am not sure whether the entire excersise was doomed from the start or no. I do believe that whatever chance it had was doomed by rummy and war on the cheap. I have come to believe that we either need a much larger footprint in iraq to have succeeded or as an alternative some special forces intervention a la Unclewest. In any case i know its been botched and i dont think there is much reason to sacrifice 100 americans per month for an unacheivable goal. Same as what happened in vietnam and with the same group of rejectionists playing the blame game i may add. Who lost china? Who lost vietnam? Who lost Iraq? Blame the press, blame the democrats, blame the american people? I say no. I say recognized what your limitations are as a warrior country and construct your policies accordingly. It is clear americans have no stomach for long wars where we fight with one hand tied behind our backs. If we went in WW2 style and used every weapon including nukes (not proposing this) americans woujld have an easier time than the drip, drip drip of american blood for a goal that has become clearly unattainable.
