As I also like to record the occasional clip I've had a look at camcorders. Two interesting 1080i (1920×1080) models are the Sony HDR-HC7 and the Canon HV20. The latter one has dropped to "only" € 900. I paid € 1500 for a good 720x576 PAL camcorder four years ago...
