Not a very flattering comparison... Anyway, Crimson's problem shows in the post below:Message 23553058 Crimson simplistically believes that "the only deterrent to war" so far is Iran's ability to wage severe reprisals on her would-be aggressors and I disagree, my opinion being that the only, real deterrent to widening the mess to Iran lies half a world away: it's China! Somehow, Crimson's rationale is but the poor rehash of peacenik propaganda before the second Iraq war. Remember what we were told by Crimson's precursors: "Uh-oh, Iraq won't be a cakewalk! Iraq is no Afghanistan! Afghanistan didn't have a proper state military... Afghanistan was a failed state made up of quarrelling tribes. But Iraq is a whole another ball-game: Saddam turned it into the world's FOURTH military power!! Beside the regular troops comes the elite Presidential Guard --Ooh la la! The Presidential Guard's gonna fight to death to defend the Iraqi regime! Upgraded Scuds will rain down all over the region --from Tel aviv to Ryiadh! Oh no, you don't want to attack Iraq." And guess what happened? You and party-pooper Crimson know what happened: Iraq was defeated in a matter of weeks, the dreadful Presidential Guard was a no-show and Saddam Hussein was ignominiously paraded by his American jailers a mere six months later.... Today were are being served the very same bugaboo: Oh, but Iran is no Iraq! Iraq was a fractious, divided polity, made up of several contentious constituencies --sunnis, shiites, kurds, christians, etc. Saddam had no real support... But Iran is quite another kettle of fish --it's four times as big as Iraq, Iranians are united behind their leadership. The Iranian military's got topnotch missiles. Then there's Iran far-reaching tentacles that could strike back anywhere, anytime!! Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, Moqtada al Sadr in Iraq!! Not to mention the Revolutionary Guard --oh no, you don't want to fight the invincible Revolutionary Guard, Iran's elite stormtroopers. See the pattern? Gus
