As with the declines of empires in history, the decline is quite imperceptible in the beginning. But it will gather momentum with time. It is very important to select the right person for President in order to contain the slide. The years under Bush Jr. is a dark hole in American history. If you watched the Republican candidates debate in S. Carolina, you would notice that there was no mention of Bush. The conservative rant of the past years is just a whimper. The neocons are on the retreat with the likes of Wolfowitz being given the boot. Only madman Cheney says that "we are winning in Iraq" (say what) The American people are capable of rising to the occasion. They will, in the end choose to have the Presidential contest to be between Obama and Romney. Hillary is coached very heavily and it will soon come out. Edwards supporters will gravitate towards Obama. And on the Republican side, the conservatives are back in their holes thereby increasing the chances of Romney, Guiliani etc. Just IMHO.
