My argument would be that self financed saudi traitor bin laden, once killed and al zawahiri, brutal killer extraordiaire will not easily be replaced. How many Saudi princes or Saudis with real bucks and bin laden like contacts are waiting in line to move to a cave in afganipak? It will far easier to control saudi wahabis on the macro level. ON the micro level there will be volunteers for suicide for awhile longer. But without international command and control it will be far less likely they can get us. I think hawk is living in a dreamworld that compels him to defend iraq way too much and ignore the real enemy. I think the dems use the taliban in the wrong manner and dont have the balls to really go after bin laden in the way he needs to be gone after. I am happy to use special forces et al but we must go after him where he is and not where we want him to be---in iraq for hawk and in afganistan for pelosi.

re OBL in Pakistan and how the US may tackle the situation :

Pakistan's official statements are that OBL is not in Pakistan.

Thats what we get for giving them $1B/year to fight terrorism.

How many centuries did it take to reach this point in Christianity? How many millions were killed along the way? What percentage of the Christian population was that? What percentage would it be now? (Speaking of tremendous loss of life.)

All very good points LL.. Maybe I'm deluding myself in believing that reform and liberalization can have an impact on moderating the fanatics which exist within Arab culture... Maybe it's the "clash of civilizations" that many have suggested we destined to fight in coming decades and we'd might as fight it now..

But I'm just not prepared to suggest it's time for to wage total war upon the Arab (read muslim) world by invading Saudi Arabia.

And I don't think the American people, or the rest of the world are prepared for such a struggle either.

So we do what we can, in an incremental manner. But I certainly am not convinced it will be totally successful.

Hawk

If you add in all the casualties of the 30 Year's War, not small. I think they dwarf all the previous casualties of the European Wars of Religion, even after you toss in all the victims of the Inquisition. Europe reached a kind of exhaustion with religious wars - "Cuius regio, eius religio" is slogan of a peace formed after people know that they just can't fight anymore (the peace of Westphalia 1648).
