Hawk, I have never paid a fee during my Hawala transfers. Its probably built in to the exchange rate offered.

Heres how it works :
Assume the bank rate is $1=INR40.

The Hawala person will offer $1=INR41

I make a call in the US, give an address and the amount to be transferred.

The money gets to its destination, and I get a confirmation call.
(usually within 24 hours)

Only after I get the confirmation call, I pay the person in the US.

If I dont pay at that stage, I risk broken knees or worse...
