Ha! That one has been interesting!

The first time I heard of BPL was a trial buildout by NTL in the UK, around '99. It folded quietly, and there was no public explanation.

There's plenty of room for skepticism, even cynicism at the edge of what we know. Most technological change is slow, incremental and unsurprising.

But thank heavens, there are always those like Einstein (who synthesized the work of many predecessors and contemporaries) that break out of the envelope with concepts and truths that challenge conventional thinking. We should be alive to the possibilities.
