If pal goes two state, and egypt stays away, israel will be pilloried by the press every time it defends itself from hamas rocket attacks.

Nothing new there. Egypt is barely holding its own trying to suppress the Muslim Brotherhood (of which Hamas is just the Gaza branch). I don't think they can control Gaza if they try. Israel may just agree to ignore their efforts to send in mukhabarat to keep down AQ attacks.
