He has been singing all along, and quite well and successfully.

I haven't read a revisionist Bio of him yet. OK. Now I have. And it's not too much different from what we saw. I am astounded that he hasn't got his snaggletooth in front replaced. He appeared on British TV on June 9th. And here is his Wiki. Wiki is a fantastic service.

Potts on Britain's Got Talent

Paul Potts, (born 1971-) He lives in Port Talbot in South Wales is a mobile phone salesman, and an amateur opera singer. He is a student of Ian Comboy.

On June 9, 2007 he took part in Simon Cowell's new search-for-a-star show "Britain's Got Talent" on ITV which was held at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. Paul sang Giacomo Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" which wowed the judges and received a standing ovation from the 2,000-strong audience. Paul's rendition of this has currently been viewed on video upload site youtube over 2 million times. [1] In the semi-final on 14 June Paul performed Con te partirò. He progressed to the final after receiving the highest share of the public vote.[2] Paul has stated on Britain's Got More Talent that he may be singing Nessun Dorma for the final. Potts is currently the bookmakers' favourite to win the competition, marginally ahead of six-year-old singer Connie Talbot. The National Public Radio programme "Day to Day" profiled Mr. Potts on Friday, June 15.

He has also sung for the Royal Philharmonic and toured Northern Italy as a soloist.[6]

[edit] Personal life

In the interview that was broadcast before his performance in the semi-final, Paul stated that he has had trouble with being bullied in school, and that it may have had an influence in his (lack of) self-confidence.

He has been married for four years to his wife Julie whom he met in an internet chat room. en.wikipedia.org

I started out saying I didn't mean to be either callous or cynical, and when I now reread what I wrote, I don't believe I was ... (On the other hand, I know you already don't like me, and maybe wanted to take a little dig.)

Hey, nothing personal here. I have never met you and neither like nor dislike you. Though I might be inclined to like you because I've known two very sweet ladies named Rambi.
But I do call them like I see them.

As you say you started out saying you did not mean to be callous or cynical. Then I said you missed that mark. Then you berate me for saying that. Then you admit you are cynical in one of your next posts.

Good post, DMA. That is where my cynicism lies ...

Surely you can pardon my confusion about your confusion.

As a college student studying piano, I had a teacher who was very very tough. And he used to scream German curse words at me. "You scheitzkopf! ...

PS. Scheitzkopf is properly spelled Scheisskopf --- Dummkopf

PPS. Surprise! I am an opera fan too as long as it doesn't have the name Wagner attached to it.

PPPS. I don't play the piano nearly as good as my daughters, but I can make an automatic weapon hum any tune you know.
:o)

I AM cynical about the show's obvious intent to show him as a cell phone salesman who walked in off the streets with a dream.

After our previous exchange, the thought occurred to me that perhaps you do not know all the meanings of cynical.

Thesaurus Adj. 1. cynical - believing the worst of human nature and motives; having a sneering disbelief in e.g. selflessness of others

Guess who won?

Two million Brits voted tonight. Because they are not cynical, the world has discovered a new talent.

Apparently he actually is a "cell phone salesman who walked in off the streets with a dream." Of course, he's not JUST that. He's also worked and studied hard to develop his talent and achieve his dream. Thats what dreamers who become achievers do.
