Feynman is worse than dated, being dead. But the principle that science (we are not talking about social science here) has to have predictive value is alive and well. The reason Woit says string theory is not even wrong is that it doesn't even make wrong predictions - it makes no predictions.

Except for the photoelectric effect for which he won the Nobel Prize in Physics. His theories of relativity were subsequently experimentally confirmed.

And Einstein admitted that he did not work from data to understanding the universe, he said he saw it one day and worked backwards.
