I think Democrats still are out there- for the environment (if you see that as a "liberal" issue, and lots of people seem to), on gay rights, and health care, and so many other things.

That doesn't mean liberals never fight a rear guard action on the erosions of social progress (progress by the liberal definition, destruction of the social fabric by the conservative definition).

It's all so much fun.

The advent of big-government security state conservatives and the Bush doctrine of democratizing the universe by force have upset the traditional conservative labels, not to mention where the social conservatives fall in that kaleidoscope.

Likewise, Clinton was very different from the San Francisco liberals but you couldn't call him a conservative southern Democrat in that traditional vein (which doesn't exist much in office any longer).

It's all too muddled to play simple L-C games. I'll leave to other threads, LOL.
