"Kurdish succession" malaprop alert (g) secession

As far as turkey and kurdistan go, i think the most important thing the US may be able to do in that region is to mediate that dispute leading to a peace between iraqi kurds and turkey and some type of self rule that satisfies the needs of the kurds who live in turkey. There is no reason that turks and kurds mustremain in conflict. This may be an opportunity for US led diplomacy to have a positive effect in the area. If we cant control the arabs, we should try to influence the non-arab populations.

But the Turks have some vital national interests at stake

This may seem like a silly question, but aside from some land what about the majority-Kurdish region of Turkey (Eastern Turkey) is of vital national interest to the rest of Turkey (which is majority Turk)? Czechoslovakia split into two countries peacefully. What, aside from Turkish pride, prevents Turkey from agreeing to the idea of an independent Kurdistan, and giving the logical geographical regions of Turkey to the new Kurdistan?

At the least you'd think Turkey would be pretty happy about no longer bordering Iraq.....

I would think that if this story is true, and can be varified by global or drone photographs, then indeed, the WH and Iraq would be quite concerned.

Essentially, the Turks are sending a serious message to both the Iraqi government and the White House.
