Michael, I can tell you've never been in the military. Not to mention, you're looking at history with 20x20 hindsight, easy to make judgement calls after the fact.......

Maybe many of the Generals hated Rumsfeld because he was so demanding (and often demeaning), but he was quite a popular SefDef with the other officers and enlisted folks.

They say him as forcing the Generals to get their crap together and stop thinking about those lucrative defense jobs that awaited them upon retirement.

I used to work at the Pentagon.. and saw how folks reacted to him.
