It's your premise that's a myth. Neither of these scenarios are likely yet you present them as the only two choices.

We may see a future in which the government of Iraq is a stabilized democratic nation. We could also see regional genocide if the current government fails.

Iraq is in a civil war. If we left, this so called government of yours would cease to exist. More likely Iraq will end up as 3 separate nations. That's what Iraq wants. Only by force has it been held together as one nation, never by will. But you dream of something else, so that something else must be a fact of some kind.

Vietnam was more serious than Iraq. In the Cold War we faced powerful, superpower, nuclear enemies which could wipe out our entire nation.

Iraq is nothing compared to the Cold War or to the delusional hyperbole you use to describe it.

As Barack Obama said - The time to think about an exit strategy is before you invade. Unfortunately, Bush and Cheney didn't do that so we find ourselves in a Quagmire.
