You and Nadine are going around in chicken and egg type of circles. Yes Nadine al quaeda does exist and will move to fill a vacuum when that becomes available. We didnt set out to create a vacuum in iraq but its obvious we did. Terrorists flowed in like oil does. If we had managed iraq right, perhaps and its a big perhaps, the locals would have become vested in the new govt and the terror pipeline would have not materialized or have been fought off. Above looks to me to be fact for the most part. Only debate and now its for historians is whether this war could ever have been won in the first place.

So all the young jihadis would be selling shoes in Riyadh instead of running to AQ and plotting their next spectacular?

You think it was OBL's plan to follow up the 9/11 spectacular with nothing except minor bombings in Madrid and London and Bali for five years?

Dream on.
